YTL Arena Bristol hosts the launch of Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

Twenty hot air balloons took off in front of the proposed site for YTL Arena Bristol to mark the launch of this year’s Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.

YTL Arena Bristol plans to repurpose the hangars to create a visionary arena which everyone can be proud of.

Managing Director of YTL Arena Bristol, Andrew Billingham, said: ‘It was fantastic to see so many balloons take off from our site to celebrate Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. We are delighted that they chose to launch the Fiesta in front of the iconic Brabazon hangars – the birthplace of Concorde.

It’s exciting to think that this entire area will be transformed. The former Filton airfield will become Brabazon, a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol. And the iconic Brabazon hangars, birthplace of every UK Concorde, will also live up to that legacy as the home of our proposed new YTL Arena for Bristol – the home of supersonic!’

The sky is the limit this summer as the Fiesta returns to the South West for its 41st year from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 August.

Capturing the essence of its Bristol home, this year the Fiesta will be celebrating Icons of Bristol and will highlight some of the things that make up the spectacular home of the International Balloon Fiesta. The iconic event has joined forces with Aerospace Bristol to honour one of the city’s most famed creations, Concorde, and Aardman Animations who are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Wallace & Gromit.
